More questions
Does the fee cover both of us?

Yes. Our prices include both people (in one price).

What if only one of us is interested in the finances?

That’s common. You don’t both need to love spreadsheets. We encourage both of you to join the goal-setting session and plan presentation, so you can get on the same page and ask your own questions. But it’s most common for one person to take the lead. It’s our job to bring everyone along for the ride!

What am I actually paying for?

Rask is a comprehensive, end-to-end financial advice service, sometimes called “holistic advice”. We’ll review your:

  • Cashflow: In your household or between entities, super and your business.
  • Investments: ETF by ETF, share by share, fund by fund, and so on. We’ll review everything you have, then tell you what to buy/sell, and why.
  • Tax structuring: Now and in the future, across super, individuals, joint ventures, trusts, companies, bonds and so on!
  • Insurance: Life/death, trauma, income protection, child’s cover and TPD. We’ll get you sorted.
  • Retirement: Pre and post, early or “on time”, pensions, TTRs, defined benefit or standard funds.
  • Superannuation: Full reviews, including strategy, performance, fees and so on.
  • Property strategy: We’ll model your properties and factor in entities, costs, borrowing, cashflow and tax.
  • Behavioural finance: Our FI+ and Platinum packages include expert coaching by default.
  • Implementation: Our FI+ and Platinum packages include us “doing the thing” for you.
Why wouldn’t I just buy a few ETFs?

You might be comfortable doing that. Choosing investments is one piece of the picture. Advice brings your super, cashflow, debt, family and big decisions together. Sometimes the value is having someone to challenge your thinking or help you avoid a mistake. It isn’t a promise to beat the market.

Can you help me work out when to stop working?

Yes. We can model different paths: working less, stopping altogether, and where your income could come from. We also talk about what you want retirement to look like. The aim is a plan you understand, with the assumptions and trade-offs explained.

When do I pay, and what do the monthly payments cover?

You pay the upfront commitment amount when you accept the proposal. We start the work from there. The 12 monthly instalments begin at Statement of Advice delivery and pay the remaining financial plan / SOA fee. They are not an Ongoing Service Arrangement (OSA) or a monthly membership. Your proposal sets out the actual amounts and terms. Optional ongoing advice is agreed separately and becomes available 12 months after SOA delivery.

Do I have to stay with you afterwards?

No way, Jose. Our fees cover the first 12 months. After that, our fees are expected to drop — that’s right, go down. Not up! We do everything we can to put the fees in line with the value, keeping more in your pocket. The way we see it? We have 12 months to prove we’re worth it.

Is this the price I’ll definitely pay?

No. It’s an indication of the service and starting fee. FI can be a little higher where there’s more work involved. Platinum starts at $20,000 and particularly complex work can cost substantially more. We’ll talk through the package and send a proposal confirming the fee, inclusions and payment schedule before you commit.

Do you charge a percentage of my investments?

Our advice fee is agreed for the work, rather than charged as a percentage of your balance. It doesn’t automatically increase because markets rise. Investment, super, platform and transaction costs can still apply separately. Insurance premiums and any upfront or ongoing insurance commissions are also disclosed.

Will you make me change my super or investments?

You don’t need to move your money to use us. Your adviser reviews what you have and explains any proposed changes, the reasons, costs and risks. You remain in control. This estimator doesn’t recommend a fund, investment or strategy.

What happens after the first conversation?

After the discovery call (the next step), we’ll send you a proposal to accept your financial advice package. You can start onboarding now on the Rask platform, under Forms.

Can the plan include things we want to do for our family?

Yes. Tell us what matters: helping the kids, supporting relatives or leaving a legacy.

Can the fee come from super?

We generally use upfront and monthly payments from you. Other arrangements may be possible, particularly with an existing platform or SMSF, but paying from super isn’t our usual approach. Ask us: eligibility, fund requirements and your advice package need to be checked separately.

Do you do legal work or tax returns?

We’re not lawyers or tax agents. We’re holistic financial advisers who are also licensed tax (financial) advisers. Meaning, we can consider estate planning, super, insurance and structuring for kids. But we work with your lawyers (for wills) and accountant (for tax returns) as project managers.

How do structures affect the estimate?

Every additional tax entity creates scenarios we have to research, model and consider as part of your plan. The complexity can become exponentially more difficult. But rest assured, our team is one of the most technical teams you’ll find.

Does having investments mean I need the biggest package?

No. But our prices are based on complexity. Some of our clients have over 100 investments across tax entities, which requires a lot more work. It’s not fair for someone with 7 ETFs to pay a higher price to subsidise someone with 100 investments scattered all over the place.

Can I put the plan into action myself?

Yes. Our FI plan is designed for that. For our higher tier packages, remember our fees are fixed. So it’s up to you if you want us to do it for you — but you may as well consider it, if you think about it.

What are the coaching sessions for?

A plan needs to work in real life. Coaching gives you time to ask questions, check progress and work through what comes next. FI Plus includes at least 2 sessions. Platinum includes monthly meetings for the first 12 months.

What does comparing scenarios actually mean?

Stress testing multiple scenarios is the best way to uncover what’s right for you. Whether it’s finishing work early, going part-time, buying a property or debt recycling — our intense modelling work uncovers the best pathway that may be hiding in a sea of potential opportunities.

Can I ask about insurance on its own?

Yes. We’ll talk through whether we can help and explain the service and remuneration before you commit. Insurance-only work has its own package and fee; this estimator won’t give it a package price. Any insurance commissions are disclosed.

What does the research say about advice?

Russell Investments’ Value of an Adviser research and Vanguard’s Adviser’s Alpha explore value beyond choosing investments, including judgement, behavioural support and the adviser relationship. They don’t tell you what return you’ll get from working with us.
